01 The brief
WRO RoboSports is the World Robot Olympiad category where robots play a sport against another team. For the 2026 season, the game is Double Tennis.
I was the builder on our team. The aim for 2026 was a smarter robot: instead of only running pre-planned moves, it should see the ball and decide what to do.
02 What I did
- Built and competed with our team’s robot in the RoboSports category.
- Added a Pixy2 camera to the robot for object tracking, with improved decision logic.
- Secured 2nd place at the WRO Nationals in Hyderabad (August 2026).
- Qualified for the WRO International Final in Puerto Rico, 8–10 December 2026.
03 Engineering notes
Why a camera?
A robot without vision can only run routines it was given in advance. A Pixy2 detects objects by colour on board and reports where they are in the frame, so the robot works with positions, not guesses.
Logic, not just hardware
A new sensor only helps if the program uses it well. The 2026 work is as much about decision logic as about the camera itself.
